App Group Activated

Approximately two dozen Second Life residents who had submitted applications to join the Green Lantern Core recently were invited to the GLC Applicant Group this past Friday night as part of the streamlined admission and training program.  The applicants will be interviewed and evaluated for possible inclusion in the next Rookie Class which will begin shortly after the current crop of 25 or so graduates in several weeks.

Ring Update

Guardians Jeff and Cathy as well as the rest of the Willpower Group are hard at work overhauling, updating, facelifting, rebuilding and otherwise tweaking the Core's power ring.  Lanterns can view the progress log and any suggestions should be posted on the Ring Update thread.  A public version of the ring is also under developement and will be available for purchase for a limited time at the Lanterns for Life Store to help raise donations for the Cancer Society's Relay for Life fundraising efforts.

ION Declares "No Dramaz" Zone

Due to a recent rash of misinformation and unfortunate gossip on the part of some folks outside of the GLC, ION Aree stepped up at last Thursday's regular meeting and reminded all Lanterns and Rookies alike how to deal with such distractions:

As ION, one of my duties is to be the Conflict Resolution counselor for the GLC. With all the resignations and rumors going on, there is a lot of misinformation being passed along lately.  The best thing you can do if you hear something disturbing or cannot avoid when there is drama going on within, or relating to, the GLC, go directly to the source and ASK. Say, "Hey, I heard this, is it true? What's the deal?"

Alternatively, you can go to one of the active Guardians, or myself, and ask what is going on. The active Guardians are usually at the front lines and know what is really happening out there.  Please don't believe what others may tell you, find out for yourself first hand.

There are people in the metaverse who thrive on gossip. The GLC is better than that. We take the high road always. The high road offers a better view and is a lot less muddy.  Thank you.

As all GL fans know, you dont mess with the ION.

Some Talk About the Walkabout

Also at this past Friday's meeting, Honor Guard Pierce told the group about another Lanterns for Life project to help raise funds for the Cancer Society's Relay for Life fundraising drive.  His project is a sponsored walkabout over parts of the Second Life mainland.  Sponsors to date have pledged a total of 67 L$ per region for each region he traverses.  According to Pierce, he is going to attempt to navigate across at least 2,000 regions.  In addition to others, several Lanterns have pledged various sums and also indicated they will join him for parts of the journey.  For more information or to track the walkabout, visit The Kronos Kronicles.

Lanterns for Life is a RFL fundraising team comprised of members from various Lantern groups including the Green Lantern Core. All proceeds from Lanterns for Life fundraising events go directly to RFLofSL via scripted kiosks or vendors.

We Be Jammin'

Since January, attendance at the Thursday night regular meeting of the Green Lantern Core has steadily grown.  According to Guardian Jeff:

I'm thrilled with the level of activity and participation now being exhibited by our membership and that includes the rookies. It's great to see so many people interested in the GLC and getting involved in trying to make SL a better place for all.

When asked what he attributed the growing interest and involvement to, he replied:

Numerous things:  The recent rebuild of the whole of Beta Quadrant -- we have over a dozen levels now, The revitalization of the Green Lantern franchise with a new animated feature coming out soon along with a future live action movie as well as the Blackest Night event just getting started in the comic world, The hardwork and dedication of GLC members, and The interest the GLC has always garnered in Second Life.

I still have rookies and applicants tell me that they have read about us and what we do ... one quoted the Camp Darfur article in the NWN the other day as to why he wanted to join us.

With a nearly 25 Rookies getting ready to graduate and two dozen Applicants soon to start rookie training, the GLC may have to start running it's meetings and events in shifts.  Beta Quadrant and most GLC regular meetings are open to all.  General meetings are held on Thursday nights at 6:30PM,  SLT, up in the Armor of Oa.
